Everyone’s abuzz about the surge of executive influencers on LinkedIn and associated business gains.

You (or your boss) wants to become an executive influencer (of course).

Here’s how in 7 steps 👇

1) PICK TOPICS

  • Who’s your target audience?
  • What do they care about?
  • Pick 2-3 topics that will provide value to the most important audiences

2) CREATE A VISUALLY APPEALING PROFILE

  • Photo: High-quality, professional, friendly
  • Banner: Visual, on-brand with headline
  • Profile headline = value | role(s)
  • Profile link = link to company
  • Featured posts: Reinforce credibility i.e. link to speech clip, media article, etc
  • About: Write a SHORT summary explaining how you’re qualified to solve your key audience’s problems (use PAS framework: problem, agitation, solution)
  • Turn on creator mode and pick 5 hashtags aligned to the 2-3 key topics

3) WRITE CONTENT THAT PROVIDES VALUE

Focus on aspects of 2-3 topics your target audience cares about:

50% educational posts
Establish authority

25% personal posts
Professional achivements/learnings (People want to “get to know” you)

25% company posts

  • Success stories/testimonials
  • How to work with your company
  • Reasons to invest (if relevant)
  • Major milestones

4) POST CONSISTENTLY

  • Post 2-3x a week (Tue-Thu has most engagement according to HubSpot)
  • Batch posts; use a ghostwriter if needed
  • Test to find times of peak engagement for your target audience. This is hard and will take time
  • Avoid external links in posts – add them in the comments
  • Don’t use >3 hashtags and use a mix of broad and niche
  • Use a post sign-off. Here‘s an example👇

5) CULTIVATE COMMUNITY

  • Comment on posts of target audiences that are “on-brand” 15-30 mins before you post
  • Comment early on big creators’ posts
  • Treat comments like mini-posts; Tag author and add relevant insight to gain visibility
  • Reply to comments within 1 hour of posting
  • Tag the person you’re replying to so they’re notified of the reply and can react
  • Respond to connection requests/ DMs; ignore the pitch slapers
  • Leverage a social media manager to handle if an executive can’t keep up

6) LEVERAGE COMPANY PAGE

  • Company page should “like” and comment on the executive’s post within the first hour of posting
  • Company page should repost executive’s posts direct to feed (within reason). Don’t add thoughts on reposts so engagements collect on executive’s original post
